Franklin wins 1500m gold on Terrific Tuesday

Rachel Franklin recorded a new Island Games record in winning gold in the 1500 metres on Tuesday night.

On what team manager Anthony Brand dubbed 'Terrific Tuesday', Franklin recorded a stunning victory, taking the gold medal by seven 100ths of a second from Western Isles’ Eilidh McKenzie.

Before that, Hannah Riley stormed to gold in the women’s 100m hurdles ahead of Jersey’s Claire Lidster.

And there was more success for the Riley family when brother Tom clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 110m hurdles.

To round off the night, Catherine Reid dominated the 400m final in an Island Games record time of 53.39s which was more than four seconds clear of the second-placed runner.
