Geordies show hallmark of champions

St George’s displayed the hallmark of champions to stay top of the fledging Canada Life Premier League table on Saturday.

Despite being under the cosh for parts of the match, a late Ciaran McNulty goal sealed a fine 2-1 victory at St Mary’s – the team tipped by many to be their closest rivals this season.

Tom Weir put the Geordies ahead in the sixth minute before Saints’ skipper Dominic McGreevy drew his side level midway through the second half.

McNulty had the final word three minutes from time at the Bowl as St George’s made it three wins out of three.

The other side with a 100 per cent record are St John’s who ran out 3-1 home winners over Old Boys, thanks to goals from Anthony Moore, Craig Dolman and John Wrigley.

Sub Liam Buckley grabbed the Old Boys reply.

A late Jack Saxon goal ensured Rushen defeated their ‘bogey’ team of recent years, Laxey, 1-0 at Croit Lowey.

Peel bounced back from their midweek defeat to win 4-0 at Ramsey - Liam Harrison, Daniel Bell (penalty), Alex Holden and Lee Gale the scorers.

They defeated Ramsey Youth Centre 2-0 in the battle of the newly promoted clubs, courtesy of goals from Antony Corkill and captain Kevin Pulman.

Castletown are bottom and suffered a blow as they lost 3-2 at home to Union Mills.

The Millers grabbed the points with a dominant first half showing, racing into a 3-0 lead which ultimately sealed the win - Jamie Johnston, Matty Cain and Joey Morling the marksmen.
