Geordies' simply gr-eight!

Champions St George’s warmed up for Boxing Day’s Parkinson Railway Cup Final in style on Saturday by thrashing lowly St John’s to move three points clear at the Sure Mobile Premier League summit.

Doubles from the prolific trio of Chris Bass junior, Martin Torr and Callum Morrissey helped the Geordies to an 8-0 success.

And there were also goals from talented youngsters Connor Doyle and Jack McVeigh as St George’s warmed up for the final showdown with Peel.

Douglas Royal remain bottom, a point behind St John’s in the drop zone.

However, they gave St Mary’s a scare before the Saints emerged 2-1 winners at Noble's Park, thanks to a Marc Priestnal double.

Brian Jaeger was the Royal marksmen.

Corinthians boosted their survival bid with a 4-3 triumph over Union Mills.

And it was Steven Glover who was the hero with a hat-trick.

Stuart Christian grabbed the other with David Thomenny from the penalty spot, Danny McMahon and Carl Dobbin the Millers’ scorers.

Old Boys ended a disappointing run with a fine 3-0 home victory over Ramsey – Liam Buckley, Tommy Miller and Gary Quirk the scorers.

Laxey showed their character to fight back from 2-0 down to rescue a point at home to Rushen.

A first half double from Jack Saxon put Rushen in charge and on course for a fine win, but in the end they had to settle for a still decent point after the Miners hit back through Lee Cowley and a penalty from player-manager Rob Sorby.

In the remaining game, Ayre suffered their second home defeat of the season with a 3-1 reverse at the hands of Gymns.

Ciaran McNulty, Mark Connor and Mark McCarrick were on target for the visitors with Sam Ferguson the Ayre scorer.
