Gerrard wins at Notre Dame

Athlete Keith Gerrard, who has recently moved to the USA, had an excellent win at the Notre Dame Cross Country Invitation held at South Bend Indiana at the weekend.

Gerrard, who was representing the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, where he has enrolled on a two-year scholarship, was making his second appearance for the university athletics team, who are also known as "The Lobos".

Having missed a number of training sessions due to a virus Keith did not take part in the main team race of the day and was selected to run in the open invitation event which had attracted a field of 76 athletes representing 25 universities and collages.

The UNM website reported that "Junior transfer Keith Gerrard cruised to victory in the men’s 8K open race. The Isle of Man (United Kingdom) product crossed the line in 25:25 – 33 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor."

This race will have provided the Manx Sports Aid recipient, who is still adjusting to training at altitudes in excess of 5000 feet, with ideal preparation for the forthcoming National Collegiate Athletic Association Cross-Country Championships.
