Hedges 19th in gymnastics final

Alex Hedges finished 19th in the men’s all-around final at the Indira Ghandi Sports Complex on Wednesday.

His performance rounded off a successful couple of days for the Isle of Man men’s gymnastic team.

Having made the all-around final in Melbourne, the 24-year-old Cambridge graduate came to Delhi determined to repeat the feat.

Having qualified in Monday’s team event in 21st position, he was delighted to move up to 19th place in the final.

On his return to the Games Village, he was in buoyant mood, "It was fantastic today. I was able to relax and really enjoy the whole experience. I am doing harder routines than in Melbourne, and every piece was clean today. No mistakes and it went really well."

Team Manager Haresh Measuria, added, "Alex will be very pleased with his performance. He’s achieved a great score and improved on Monday’s score. He’s improved three positions on his finish on Monday. He’s achieved all his ambitions for Delhi and put in a real ‘Captain’s Innings’."

Makunda Measuria had been hopeful of joining Alex in the final, having qualified as a reserve.

However, none of the top 24 finalists dropped out, and he was not required.
