Manx squad agonisingly beaten in sudden death penalty shootout

The Isle of Man Ladies B hockey squad suffered an agonising penalty-shootout defeat to Sunbury & Walton Hawks 1st XI during this year's EH Women's Tier 3 Plate final in London.

The Manx side had led in the first half at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre through a Katie Errock strike from a penalty corner before their advantage was doubled in the 53rd minute thanks to Morven Smith.

However, Sunbury & Walton Hawks struck twice in two minutes late on, first on 59 minutes courtesy of Imogen Thomas and then Beth Wilson netting the equaliser.

This sent the contest the penalty shuffles with Sunbury & Walton Hawks emerging victorious 4-3 in sudden death.

The Isle of Man side's journey comes to an end after a run of four straight wins in the competition - which includes one walkover - in an EH Women's Tier 3 Plate campaign stretching back to December 2024.

They'd dropped into the competition then after defeat in the EH Women's Tier 3 KO Championship in October last year.
