Hockey leaders both win

The leaders in the hockey Premier Leagues maintained their 100 per cent records on Saturday.

Valkyrs A and Vikings A won well to stay top of the men’s and women’s leagues respectively.

Doubles from Chris Thomas and Gareth Morris and one from Steven Lowe fired Valkyrs A to a 5-1 win over Castletown A, whose consolation came via Dan Stewart.

Jonny Callow and Jamie Brown both hit hat-tricks as reigning champions Bacchas A hit Vikings A for six.

Their reply came from Steve Underwood.

Ramsey A and Bacchas B shared six goals.

Matthew Grice, Raj Nanda and James Atchison scored for the northerners with Matt Holden and Alex Bell replying for Bacchas B.

Kim Carney led the rout for the champions in the Wi Manx women’s Premier League.

She hit five as Vikings A were 11-1 winners over Valkyrs B.

Katie Errock (two), Sarah Breen (two), Louise Slater and Beckie O’Brien grabbed the others with Maxine Smalley providing Valkyrs’ only bright spot.

Castletown won the battle of the chasers with Zoe Shimmin the hero with both goals in a 2-1 victory over Bacchas A, for whom Claire Louise Lace found the net again.

The victory meant Town leapfrogged Bacchas into second.

Alice Henderson was the star as Valkyrs hit eight past Bacchas B without reply.

Kerry Beattie (two) and Leanne Miller notched the others.

Ramsey A secured an important 3-1 success over Vikings B, whose markswoman was Jan Carney.
Ellen Robinson, Alex Callow and Hannah Grubb were the scorers for the northerners.
