Manx cycling star Mark Cavendish is out of the Tour de France.

He suffered a fractured shoulder in a heavy crash yesterday (4 July)caused by world champion Peter Sagan who was later disqualified.

Cavendish, a 30-time Tour stage winner and chasing Eddy Merckx's all-time record of 34 Tour stage wins, careered into the barriers and required medical treatment on the ground before crossing the finish line with his right hand bandaged.

Today’s stage is the first mountain-top finish of the 2017 race.
