IOM Equine holds first Driving Championships

West Coast RC win team event

IOM Equine witnessed the first The Manx Horse Council Members' Driving Championships.

Nine team entered, made up of two competitors, they were supplied with five experienced driving ponies and drivers, who back stepped and supported them with information and support.

These were Margot Dahn with Fluffy, Sharon Maternaghan and Sandy, Jess Clague with Bambi, Rowan Caley with Sandysaurus and Francesca Charmer with Rocky.

The “new drivers” after a short practice had to navigate their way around a course of 28 cones - the aim was to drive within the optimum time, keeping the balls on the cones, which would incur 3 penalties for each ball and 0.5 penalties for every second over the time.

The inaugural event, the light bulb moment coming from Chairwoman Libby Priest, in order to increase sport participation.
