IoM to announce Gold Coast 2018 team

Commonwealth Games takes place in Australia in April

The official Isle of Man team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games will be announced later.

The event is taking place in Australia's Gold Coast in April and comprises 275 events in 18 different sports.

England, Canada and New Zealand are among the 69 nations the Isle of Man will be competing against at the Games.

It's understood the Island can only submit a team with a maximum of 32 athletes.

Three Manx athletes have won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games.

Cyclist Peter Buckley won the Men's Road Race in Kingston in 1966 and Nigel Kelly won the Men's Skeet shooting event 20 years later in Edinburgh.

Mark Cavendish was the last Manxman to win a gold medal at the Games when it was last held in Australia.

He triumphed in the Men's Scratch Race in Melbourne in 2006.
