Island Games day four: ten more medals for team Isle of Man

Medals won in athletics, swimming, archery, shooting and table tennis

Rachael Franklin stole the show in the athletics at the Island Games this evening, winning gold in the women’s 5,000m and smashing the event record by 40 seconds with her time of 16:05.80. In women’s discus, Tazmin Fayle took bronze with a throw of 38.44m.

In swimming, Joel Watterson won gold in both the men’s 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly. Peter Allen took silver in the butterfly final. In the women’s 100m butterfly final, Laura Kinley took gold. The men’s 4x100m medley relay team won bronze in their event.

Manx archer Rhys More took silver in the men’s compound head to head knockout competition.

In shooting, Michael Cross, Stan Cross and Alan Kinrade took bronze in the men’s English sporting team competition.

Katherine Vinas won bronze in the women’s table tennis singles.

On the tennis court, Anna Kirk beat top-seeded Tzvetelina Havrén from Gotland to book a place in the women's semi-finals and Sarah Long and Karen Faragher have made it into the women's doubles semi-finals. In the mixed doubles, both Marc Chinn and Karen Faragher and Sean Drewry and Anna Kirk are into the semi-finals.

In badminton, Jessica Li of team Isle of Man made it into the final of the women’s singles and will play Sara Jacobsen of Greenland tomorrow.

The Manx men’s basketball team had their first win of the games, defeating the Falkland Islands 110-58. The women's team were knocked out in the semi-finals of their competition 102-40 by Menorca.

In the men’s road race, Mark Horsthuis finished tenth with Will Draper 17th, Jamie Fletcher 20th, Niall Quiggin 29t and Michael Faid 34th.
