Island sport at a standstill again

Circuit break lockdown leads to suspension

The Island’s sporting community will be without any competitive action until further notice.

Many governing bodies have moved quickly to advise clubs and individuals about a suspension of fixtures and training.

The Manx Hockey Association says the board has agreed to stop all activity with immediate effect including any training sessions which were planned for this evening.

It says it expects all clubs to respect this decision.

Football was four minutes away from kick-off with FA Cup preliminary round ties on Saturday when a decision was made to act on a government request to stay at home.

All fixtures and training have been called off for the duration of the lockdown.

Rugby has also stopped.

All the regional swimming pools, and all facilities at the the National Sports Centre, are closed.

The Ramsey Bakery Fireman’s Run on Thursday evening has been cancelled.

All Isle of Man Netball is off for the next three weeks or until the lockdown ends.

The Manx Motors stages Jurby rally was due to be held on Saturday – no official announcement yet but it is highly likely “the event is cancelled”.
