
Golds galore and records broken in Orkney
The Isle of Man's journey at the Orkney Island games has come to an end today. (18 July)
They picked up an astonishing 80 medals in total across the seven days, 17 more than their total in Guernsey in 2023.
It's been a successful week for all of the athletes, but the bulk of the medals came from the gymnastics, swimming and athletic teams, contributing to 56 of the honours.
In the Stromness Academy, the gymnasts hauled 22 medals - three gold, nine silver and 10 bronze.
Amara Brogen with two and Harry Eyres the only individuals to make the top step.
Meanwhile, the swimmers in the pool produced 19 medals - six gold, seven silver and six bronze.
Harry Robinson and Joel Watterson picked up a gold each, while the relay teams took the top prize four times and also set two new Island Games records.
The athletics track was where the pick of the action was though with six gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
Christa Cain started the week strong in her debut at the event as she smashed the women's 10,000m record to win her first gold.
She then backed that up with wins in the women's 5,000m and women's half-marathon events.
Corrin Leeming also starred with two gold medals, one in the men's 10,000m and men's half-marathon.
Elsewhere Regan Corrin won gold in the men's high jump.
The golf course also produced winners.
Daryll Callister won the men's individual ahead of Island teammate Robert Noon who came second whilst the golf team was given the gold team award.
Meanwhile, the Isle of Man's cyclists won eight medals.
Tyler Hannay the only individual to pick up honours as he completed the set, with a gold in the individual time trial.
The team also won gold in the same event.
Aalin George and Ethan Moore also won three individual bronze medals for the archery squad.
The women's football team suffered heartbreak in the final, as they lost to Bermuda 4-2 on penalties.
However, the men's side beat Jersey 3-2 in a third place playoff to take bronze.
Badminton won one silver and four bronze medals.
Last but not least, Clara Isaac won a bronze medal in the women's triathlon event which kicked off the competition.
The Isle of Man finished fourth in the medal table behind the winners Faroe Islands, Jersey in second and Guernsey third.
The Island Games will return in 2027 and is set to take place in the Danish archipelago.
