Jamieson wins Western 10, George takes Julie Brew Memorial

Richard Jamieson won the Western 10 Road Race in Peel yesterday.

The Northern Athletics Club man finished in 59.11, beating the only other runner to go under the 1 hour mark, Nigel Armstrong, by 15 seconds.

Nikki Boyde was the first lady (ninth overall), eight-and-a-half minutes quicker than Gail Griffiths (27th), with Debbie Loader third (29th) a further 22 seconds back.

Meanwhile in the Julie Brew Memorial Walk, held on the same route, Michael George triumphed to add the title to his End to End success a fortnight ago.

The Douglas hotelier finished the 10km event in 1:23.44, just over eight minutes ahead of Welly Welly Wanderers.com team mate Chris Cale.

Vinny Lynch was another to replicate his End to End finishing position, coming third.

There was a close finish for the ladies as Marie Jackson (seventh overall) just edged Janice Quirk (eighth) by three seconds to take the victory.

Sally Walker was third (tenth overall).

Both events saw good turnouts, with 62 runners and 142 walkers completing the course.
