Loundes the star at MH Open

Island athletes performed well at the Manx Harriers open meeting at the National Sports Centre.

Kevin Loundes was the star of the day, winning the 10 kilometre run in a time of 30 minutes, 55 seconds, one of the fastest ever recorded by a Manx athlete over the distance.

Chris Bracken from Thurles Crokes was second with another local, Martin Malone, in third.

The respective age group classes were won by Michael Garrett, Murray Lambden, Chris Quine, Richard Radcliffe, Jackie Lee and Alan Postlethwaite.

Manxman Peter Kaneen finished in a fine third place in the 10km walk, won by James Traenor of Shercock Athletics Club.

Michael George was third and Vinny Lynch fourth in the 20km walk, won by David Kidd of St Laurence O'Toole.

Daniel Scarffe finished third in the junior one mile walk, an event won by Deena Sadik of the Westport club.

Danielle Oates secured another third placed local finish in the three kilometres walk, won by Evan Lynch of Clonmel.

Cian McManamon of Westport won the five kilometre event.
