Netballers keen to 'make Island proud'

IoM contesting NE Under-17s Challenge Cup

Isle of Man Under-17s netball player Jemima Shepherd says the team is keen to 'make the Island proud'.

She was speaking after day two of the Netball Europe Under-17s Challenge Cup.

The Manx Rams got off to a winning start to the competition on Friday, comfortably beating Malta 56-19.

They then made it two wins from as many matches when they took to the court against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday morning.

Having been victorious over the Irish in the last time the two nations met, the Isle of Man fought hard as they prevailed 45-31 and maintain their 100 per cent start.

A first defeat beckoned, however, as the Manx Rams faced Gibraltar in their third game, ending 44-28 to the host nation.

Despite the loss, the mood in the Isle of Man camp appears to be buoyant as the competition progresses.

Shepherd told Manx Radio Sport the team have to remain focussed as there are no easy games:
