MGP Classic treble for Farquhar

There was a day of exciting racing at the Manx Grand Prix as the 2011 festival drew to a close.

Ryan Farquhar completed a hattrick with success in the Classic Superbike, after a race-long battle with Mark Buckley.

At the start of the final lap there was a gap of only 1.7 seconds between the riders, and by Glen Helen it was down to 0.6 of a second.

However, Buckley's bike failed at Kerrowmooar leaving Farquhar to coast to a comfortable victory.

Buckley's exit promoted John Barton to second, and Mick Godfrey claimed the remaining place on the podium.

Farquhar was pleased with the victory after a tricky race (listen to audio file below):

Ryan Farquhar also won the 350cc Classic and 500cc Classic at this year's meeting.

Local rider Dan Kneen won three races on modern machinery at the MGP in 2008.

In the Junior Post Classic race, run at the same time as today's Classic Superbike, Roy Richardson from Blackpool led from start to finish. Local man Chris Palmer was second and Stuart Garton third.

Richardson and Farquhar both now have nine career Manx Grand Prix wins equalling Bill Swallow's tally.

Only Bob Heath has more, with eleven.
