Murray is marathon master

Murray Lambden won the Salclear Isle of Man Marathon yesterday in a time of 2:47.49, claiming the Isle of Man Championship in the process.

Paul Curtis of Northern Vets AC was second, just over ten minutes behind Murray (2:58.00).

Mike Garrett finished third, and was IOM Champs runner-up, in only his fifth marathon.

He teamed up with Murray and race walker Michael George to help Manx Harriers win the team title by one point from host club Isle of Man Veteran Athleties Club.

Steve Edwards finished his 454th marathon in his 'Marathon Challenge' by coming 7th overall (3:11:17).

Rebecca Johnson was the winner of the women's class, and 5th overall, in 3:08.52 in only her second attempt at the distance.

Claire Danson was second (15th overall) and Elizabeth McGowan third (27th)

The full and half marathons are part of the "No Rest for the Wicked" series, which continues tonight with the Peel Hill Run.

Put on by Western Athletic Club, the out and back course is just under 4 miles and involves running up said hill to Corrin's Folly before the downhill sprint back to the start line.
