UAE too strong for Island side on first day in Cardiff
The Isle of Man Under-21's netball side has suffered a 78-24 defeat to United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their first encounter of this week's World Youth Cup qualifiers.
The Manx side's opening match in Cardiff began as a closely-fought contest with just five points separating them and their opponents after the first quarter at 9-14.
However, UAE began to assert themselves into the second, stretching their advantage to going into the half-time break at which point the Isle of Man then trailed 13-37.
Into the second half of proceedings and UAE continued their clinical charge to rack up 61 points heading into the last quarter compared to the Isle of Man's 18.
The Island squad managed six further points in quarter four as they were unable to stem the UAE tide with the latter emerging with an opening day victory.
The Isle of Man's next match is today (25 September) against Wales and is scheduled to get underway at 5pm.
