Southerners win epic encounter
Southern Nomads secured the Shimmin Wilson Manx Trophy in an epic encounter with Douglas Celts at Ballafletcher.
Early tries from Rob Keelan and Tom Davies, both converted by Mark Young, gave Nomads an early lead but Josh Carine and Nathan Knights pulled tries back for Douglas and, after Max Morley-Green converted one, the Nomads lead was reduced to 14-12 at half time.
Adam Young crossed for Nomads early in the second half to extend their lead and, when Al Corrin added a fourth Nomads try, they looked to be in command at 26-12.
Two late tries from Carl Conroy, both converted by Morley-Green, levelled the game at 26-26 before Nomads prop Ally Kelly romped in from 40 metres to snatch the lead back.
Young also crossed for Nomads in the dying seconds in a dramatic finish as they claimed the silverware.
