Opening day demolitions for top clubs

The dominant forces in men’s hockey produced opening day demolitions to indicate they will be the sides to beat again.

Reigning men’s Division One champions Bacchas A thrashed Vikings B 9-0 with Karl Moore leading the way with a hat-trick.

Andy Bridson netted a double and there were also goals from Glen Bloxham-Mundy, Richard Le Page, Pete Hodgson and James Wright.

Meanwhile, arch rivals Valkyrs A went one better and thrashed Saracens 10-0.

There were hat-tricks each from the prolific Greg Miller and Gareth Morris.

Neil Jacobs chipped in with two, while Chris Thomas and Rusell Miller also found the net.

The ever-improving Ramsey A showed their quality, defeating Castletown A 4-0, courtesy of Ian Wood, James Atcheson, Ollie Webster and Andy Burrows.

And there was an impressive result for Vikings A who were 4-0 winners over Bacchas B – Paul Kelly (two), Simon Foster and Mark Dougherty the scorers.

In women’s Division One, champions Bacchas A showed no mercy to newly promoted Valkyrs B.

They demolished them 15-1 with four goals each from the prolific Donna Harrison and Kelly Shimmin.

Niamh Goddard struck a hat-trick and Claire Lace and Sharron Pope grabbed doubles.

Kim Carney, Kirsty Hunt and Karen Fargher scored the goals as Vikings A made a good start with a 3-1 win over Valkyrs A, whose reply came from Delta Williams.

Ali Breen scored two as Ramsey A beat Castletown A 3-1, while Phoenix edged an exciting five-goal game against Harlequins.
