Peel win big match; Town stun champs

It’s advantage Peel in the race for the Sure Mobile Premier League.

They moved three points clear at the summit after a 1-0 win at St Mary’s in the clash of the top two.

Kerron Christian’s 41st minute goal was the decisive point as the westerners triumphed in the match of the day at the Bowl.

Rushen remain hot on their heels though after a 5-1 win over basement battlers Union Mills.

A Josh Kelly double, plus goals from Aaron Hawley, Ted Pepper and an own goal meant Chris Kelly’s reply was a mere consolation.

Newly promoted Castletown caused the result of the day and all but ended reigning champions St George’s chances of retaining the title.

PJ Martin and Mike Edge ensured a fine day for Town at the Stadium with a 2-1 win. Danny McMahon was on target for the Geordies.

Michael remain in the relegation zone after suffering an 8-1 thrashing at Laxey.

The star of the show was Michael Fernandez who hit four for the Miners.

Ashley Webster, Jamie Clague, Dave Corlett and Fraser Vaughan grabbed the others with second half substitute Paul Corlett providing Michael’s only bright spot.

There was more good news for Laxey in their bid to qualify for the Railway Cup as Gymns went down 1-0 at Corinthians – substitute Richard Mulhearn the match winner.

Craig Stewart and Liam Buckley were the scorers as Old Boys overcame the spirited challenge of St John’s 2-1 at Blackberry Lane.

Steven Quine netted for St John’s.
