Politicians' pay could come under scrutiny

A candidate in Onchan in next month's general election says MHKs are paid too much.

Chairman of the local commissioners June Kelly is promising to be a 'voice of the people of Onchan' and is calling for a closer look at what she describes as 'unnecessary' schemes.

Mrs Kelly has spent 30 years working in the healthcare sector, most recently as a health visitor.

She says if elected she would look closely at what members of the House of Keys get paid (listen to audio file below):

With the general election just under two months away, six people have declared their intention to contest the three seats in Onchan. The others are challengers Zac Hall and Brian Stowell, and sitting members Adrian Earnshaw, Peter Karran and David Quirk.

The general election is on Thursday, September 29.
