Rally Disappointment Ends Season

The final round of the Manx Rally Championship has been cancelled.

The organiser, Manx Auto Sport Limited, is only granted an event permit by meeting strict standards imposed by the governing body of rallying.

In a statement, it says despite these being met, additional demands have been made by The T.T. Festival and Motorsport Arrangements Group.

This Group was established in July by the Chief Minister, following the critical findings of the Coroner at the inquest into the fatal accident at the 26th milestone during the Centenary T.T..

It's remit is to work alongside event organisers, government departments, emergency services and voluntary agencies.

However, approval for running the Black Horse Finance Stages Rally, scheduled for next weekend, has not been granted.

The Department of Transport, who authorise all road closures, says it has "insufficient resourses" to carry out the work required for the rally to take place.

Manx Radio Rally correspondent Chris Boyd says this is a case of politics and sport not mixing well together:-

The cancellation of the Black Horse Finance Stages Rally means Mark and Eunice Cubbon are Manx Rally Champions for 2008
