Ramsey B have wings clipped

Surprise Shimmin Wilson Shield leaders Ramsey B had their wings clipped by Douglas B at Port-e-Chee on Saturday.

A dazzling first half display from Douglas, including a hat trick from scrum half Andy Jones, gave Douglas a 30-0 half-time lead which was just too much for Ramsey B to haul back.

Ramsey were in trouble from the opening five minutes when John Ledwidge pounced on a fluffed clearance to open the scoring.

Andy Jones set up Chris Brew for the second on 10 minutes and scored the third himself from close range on 20.

Lloyd Jones made in 20-0 on the half hour before namesake Andy bagged two tries in six minutes just before half time.

Ramsey made some wholesale changes for the second half but not in time to prevent Ledwidge getting his second of the afternoon to make it 35-0.

The Ramsey revival then arrived.

Will Keenan blasted home from close range to get the visitors on the scoreboard and when Shaun Wyllie converted it was 35-7.

Nick McCudden pulled another try back for Ramsey to leave the final score 35-12.

This result puts Ramsey B into second place and their spot at the top of the table goes to fellow club side, Ramsey A, who picked up maximum points after Western Vikings conceded the fixture between them.

At Glencrutchery Road, Vagabonds B beat Castletown 19-3.

Tic Connolly, Bryn Griffiths and Sean Grobbelaar all scored tries for Vagas with Michael Oates weighing in with a couple of conversions to keep Vagas’ Shield hopes alive.

At King Williams College, Southern Nomads comfortably disposed of their second team 60-0.

Andy Lean and John Sleight both picked up a brace for Nomads and there were single tries from James Hamill, Ian Hargreaves, Steve McHugh and Damian Brand.
