Ramsey gain vital points

Ramsey beat Orrell 17-6 at a cold and windy Mooragh Park to pick up four vital points as they battle against relegation from South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.

A fourth minute penalty from John Wilson gave the visitors an early lead but Ramsey hit back with tries from Andy Cleator, Matty Clague and Mikey Craine, plus a Dan Bonwick conversion, to lead 17-3 at the break.

The bonus point try eluded Ramsey, however, and the only score of the second half was a John Wilson penalty for Orrell.

Ramsey now are within four points of safety with nearest rivals Marple due to visit the Mooragh on March 8.

Vagabonds were unable to beat one of the division’s promotion favourites, despite leading 10-8 at half time against Ormskirk.

Ross Pulman and Paul Howard both crossed for Vagas as they turned around with their noses just in front.

An injury to talismanic skipper Mark Howarth disrupted the home side in the second half and Ormskirk ran out comfortable winners.

The result sees Ormskirk go top of the table, while Vagas drop to sixth after Southport beat Oswestry.
