Ruby: Vagas Ladies share the spoils with Leigh

Reports by Dave Christian

Vagas Ladies back in the UK League

Vagas got their season underway with a 12-12 draw away at Leigh in Women's NC 1 North West. A handful of covid cases left skipper Lauren Ellison with some selection issues especially in the forwards and while the result isn't necessarily what she'd hoped for, she'll likely be happy to be coming home with two points. Vagas’ centre Jules Harrison bagged two tries for Vagas with Sammie MacDonald converting one. The Ladies next match is a home clash with Littleborough on 24th October.

Ramsey record second big win in Ravenscroft Manx Trophy

After putting sixty-four points past Vagabonds last week Ramsey beat Southern Nomads 121-0 at Mooragh Park this week. Brandon Atchison topped last week’s hat trick with five tries, opposite wing Peter Frankwick grabbed three, there were two apiece for Kieran Kneale and Dave Keenan and single scores from Matt Meechan, Callum Clague, Dan Bonwick and Adam Dunlop. The big points scorer though was Dan Richmond whose two tries and thirteen conversions gave him a personal haul of thirty-six points.

In the other Manx Trophy game Douglas Celts beat Vagabonds 31-5 at Port-e-Chee in their first Manx Trophy outing. Jo Louw went in for a consolation try for Vagas. Douglas face Southern Nomads in a rearranged match next Saturday before a big clash with Ramsey on 24th.

Vikings overrun Castletown in Manx Bowl

Western Vikings made a solid start to their season with a 31-12 win against Castletown in the Ravenscroft Manx Bowl. Sam Tarpey and Jack Goodwin crossed for Vikings first half tries with Harry Goodwin converting one for a 12-0 lead. Conor Stephens extended the lead in the second half but when Jack Goodwin was yellow carded Kunal Patel and Kyle Martin both crossed for Town with Martin converting one to reduce the lead to 17-12. As soon as Vikings returned to a full complement though they forged clear. Stephens bagged his second try and there was also a score from Brian Skillicorn, both of which were converted by Gary Stephenson.
