Ramsey scoop Manx Plate in 25/26 season finale

Report by Dave Christian:

The Hartford Homes Manx Cup will take pride of place in the Port-e-Chee trophy cabinet after Douglas Celts beat Southern Nomads 43-5 in the final.

Douglas led 12-5 at half time but turned on the power in the second half and raced clear.

A pushover try touched down by skipper Percy Hampton gave Douglas an early lead, with Craig Martin converting.

Nomads hit back quickly at the other end through Mikey Craine but a 20th-minute try from Alfie Howard restored the Douglas advantage which they held until the break.

Two quick tries at the beginning of the second half broke Nomads’ resistance - Lewin Scarffe bagged the first, Percy Hampton the second and with Craig Martin's conversions, Douglas were suddenly 26-5 ahead.

With a big lead comes confidence and Douglas pushed forward full of it.

Sam Clarke came on for Lewin Scarffe and he soon scored with Martin again converting and in the very closing stages they picked up two more through Wilf Kermode and Craig McGee to put a little icing on the cake.

Mason hat-trick helps Ramsey to Manx Plate

Ramsey beat Vagabonds 35-24 in the Hartford Homes Manx Plate Final to take some silverware back to the Mooragh after a tough season, the highlight of the game being a hat-trick from wing, Jonny Mason.

Mason put Ramsey ahead early on with Dan Kelly’s conversion making it 7-0.

Dan Bonwick pulled one back for Vagabonds but Brayden Roche crossed for Ramsey from the restart to restore the advantage.

Brendan Kelly went in for 'Vagas' but a Dan Kelly penalty at the other end gave Ramsey a 17-10 lead.

Just before half time though, Matt Rockwell crossed for Vagabonds and Theo Head’s conversion tied the game at 17-17.

In the second half, Jack Cutts intercepted and ran 80 metres to score and when he converted his own try, Vagabonds were in front 24-17.

Ramsey were having none of it though - Mason grabbed his second and then Kieran Kneale went in to put Ramsey back in front 27-24.

Kelly’s second penalty extended the lead and Mason’s hat-trick try with seven minutes remaining was enough to seal the deal.
