Rugby: Douglas denied at Wilmslow

Vagabonds suffer tough defeat at Dukinfield

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas claimed a losing bonus point away at Wilmslow but almost had much more after a late Wilmslow try snatched the result from their grasp. Wilmslow led 8-6 at half time with Luke Hyland kicking two penalties to keep Douglas in touch. He added three more in the second half in an almost flawless kicking display and put Douglas 15-8 in front. Wilmslow hauled one back but were still trailing 15-13 in the final minutes. A late converted try was however enough to snatch the points.

Vagabonds run continues at Dukinfield

Vagabonds lost 48-5 away at Dukinfield in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire to make it three defeats in three outings. Steve Gawne crossed for a consolation try for Vagas. Fellow early strugglers Old Bedians visit Ballafletcher next Saturday and Vagas will have an eye on that game for their first win of the season.

Ramsey edge out Nomads in Cheshire Bowl thriller

It was a really tight affair at the Mooragh Park with Ramsey just clinching the win in a 24-19 victory. Conor Cracknell’s early try put Ramsey in front but Nomads struck back through Tony Quinn to tie the game 5-5 at half time. Ivo Morrey went in for Ramsey early in the second half with Brandon Atchison converting. Rory Nicholson added a third for Ramsey, but just as the game seemed to be running away from Nomads, they struck back with a Finn McGregor try converted by Sean Christian and the Ramsey lead was down to 17-12. From the restart Ramsey skipper Matt Meechan powered home for the try bonus point and an Atchison conversion restored the advantage. A try from Will Taisia ten from the end put Ramsey nerves on edge but they were able to close the game out.
