Report by Dave Christian:
Douglas slip again
Douglas suffered their second defeat on the bounce when they were beaten 21-19 at home by Sandbach.
They do however hold onto their fourth place in Regional 2 North West.
Close rivals North Ribblesdale kept the pressure on with a bonus point win but Vale of Lune lost at home to Widnes which leaves Douglas with a game in hand which could leave them in second place.
Matty Wood went over twice for Douglas who were leading with ten to play. Si Hoddinott also weighed in with a try and Nathan Robson kicked two conversions.
Douglas travel to Altrincham Kersal next Saturday for their final game of 2025.
Another tough day in Counties 3
2025 came to an end for Ramsey and Vagabonds in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire with home defeats for both.
Ramsey went down 26-17 to third place Ashton-Under-Lyne at the Mooragh Park while Vagabonds lost out 26-14 to Clitheroe at Ballafletcher.
An early penalty try sent Ashton on their way at Ramsey. Ethan Sykes followed up with Josh Pattison converting.
Ramsey struck back with a Jake Richmond try converted by Dan Kelly but immediately coughed one up at the other end when Lewis Pattison touched down for Ashton to leave them 19-7 ahead at half time.
Tom Ainsworth bagged the bonus point for Ashton just after the break, but Ramsey kept plugging away and were rewarded with a brace in the final ten from Rory Nicholson on his 100th appearance.
There was a very similar scoreline at Ballafletcher where Vagabonds hosted Clitheroe who were eighth but still in with a shout of a place in the top seven when the league splits.
They won 26-14 to claim a bonus point win.
Vagas tries came courtesy of Cam Findlay and Theo Head with Findlay converting both.
Vagabonds Ladies fly the flag
Vagabonds Ladies showed the men’s teams how things should be done with the only league win of the day.
They beat Aldwinians 10-0 at Ballafletcher in Womens NC2 North (South) which could see them sneak into fourth place after Sunday’s fixtures.
Vagas try machine Freya Crowe added another two meaning she has scored in every game so far this season.
