Rugby: Home debut for Vagabonds Ladies

Douglas face tough trip to Anselmians

Report by Dave Christian:

Vagas entertain Eccles at Ballafletcher on Saturday in their first home game of the season. After two away games Vagas have one win under the belt and they’re tied with Eccles and Broughton Park for third place. Vagas have a decent enough pack of forwards and in Jules Harrison, once of the best strike runners in the league. This should be a tight game, with Vagas taking the honours.

Douglas face tough trip to Anselmians

After recording their first win of the season Douglas travel to Anselmians this weekend for what will be a very tough game. Their hosts are top of Regional 2 North West and have a perfect record. They’ve played six and won six and have taken a maximum six out of six bonus points, plus, a closer look at their stats reveals that they’ve been away from home four out of the six.

Last Saturday’s win lifted Douglas to ninth place in the league standings, but this weekend I suspect they’re not going to improve their lot.

Vagabonds away at Ellesmere Port

A no-show from Old Bedians last Saturday gave Vagas their first points of the season and while they would’ve preferred to win on the field of play, the points will be accepted nonetheless. This week they travel to Ellesmere Port. The Oilers (as they’re known) beat Southern Nomads in the Cheshire Plate a few weeks ago but the margin was far from decisive and Vagas will make the trip knowing they have a good chance. Ellesmere are two from four in their fixtures and one of those wins includes defeating Bury who beat Vagas in week one. Vagabonds may struggle here.

Ravenscroft Manx Shield

The Greens take on Castletown at Poulsom Park in the solitary game of the weekend.

The Greens should be too strong for Town and will need the points to keep pressure on the top sides. They lost against the Whites a few weeks back and following a rest week and a Cheshire Bowl run, they should get back to business against an improving Castletown.

Meanwhile, the other game previously scheduled for this competition on Saturday between Nomads Whites and Eastern Barbarians has now been postponed.
