Douglas suffer late defeat
With ten minutes to play Douglas were 25-19 ahead against Firwood Waterloo at Port-e-Chee in Regional 2 North West.
A try, penalty and conversion from Matty Wood gave Douglas 10 useful first half points.
The visitors however rallied strongly and led 14-10 at half time.
In the second half Kyle Martin and Josh Duncan both went over for tries with Duncan converting one and Nathan Robson adding a penalty.
This all gave Douglas the advantage going into the closing stages however a late surge from Waterloo saw them take the win by the finest of margins.
There was some good news for Douglas though.
Close rivals Burnage lost to Widnes so the gap for Douglas remains at four points however they travel to Widnes themselves in two weeks’ time.
Ramsey well beaten at Orrell
Promotion chasing Orrell banked five points against Ramsey with a 73-12 win in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire.
Ramsey struggled to run the travel out of their legs in the first half and trailed 47-0 at the break.
John Joe Riley ran in two for Orrell with supporting scores from Adam Hunt, Daryl Sheridan, Lewis Gibbons, Denny Solomona and Matt Johnson.
Craig Thomas and Terry Leaford kicked five conversions between them.
After the break Adam Dunlop pulled once back for Ramsey but Riley completed his hat trick at the other end, Hunt and Solomona both bagged their second scores of the game with Thomas adding three more conversions.
Ramsey did pick up their second try by way of consolation with prop Matt Livesey doing the honours and Dan Kelly converting.
Big win for Vagabonds Ladies
Vagas Ladies celebrated International Womens Day with a 62-8 defeat of Bury at Ballafletcher.
Vagas two girl try factory Bea O’Neill and Freya Crowe scored five between them with O’Neill pocketing a hat trick.
There were also two tries from multi positional Corinna Daly who swapped the ten jersey for the eight this week.
Vagas led 26-8 at half time with Bury skipper Macy Norton kicking a penalty and scrum half Grace Cockroft grabbing a try to just about keep their team in the hunt.
The traffic after the break was however one way and with earlier tries coming from the machine, the rest of the team weighed in too with scores from Ros McNair, Lauren Ellison and Leona McGovern.
While all this was going on Vagas’ captain Sammie Macdonald quietly chipped away with conversions and finished with six.
Nomads narrow the gap
Southern Nomads beat Western Vikings 41-19 at QE2 to close the gap to Hartford Homes Manx Shield leaders Douglas to just four points.
It was tight at half time though with Nomads leading 10-7 after tries from Sam Kennaugh and Mike Craine.
Craine added his second after the break with other tries coming from Stan Cubbon, Tom Collister, Jack McHugh and Josh Linwood
