Rugby round-up

Vagabonds were beaten 30-13 in their crucial bottom of the table game against Warrington in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.

In a day dominated by travel disruption, Vagas were late leaving for the match, which subsequently kicked off late.

The defeat leaves Vagas next to bottom of the division as Warrington jumped up two places following their impressive performance.

Douglas lost their second consecutive home game in Division Two as Orrell Anvils stole the points in a tight game which finished 15-14 in favour of the visitors.

Chris Bennett kicked Orrell into an early lead with a well struck fourth minute penalty but Bryn Snellgrove’s 20th minute try and conversion put Douglas in front and they led 7-3 at half-time.

A second half try from Max Huxley put Orrell back in front 8-7 and a penalty try, converted by Chris Bennett, saw them 15-7 in front with 10 minutes to go.

Douglas hit back with a Geoff Miles try converted by Snellgrove but they ran out of time before they could overhaul their guests.

Bottom side Vagabonds B picked up their first win of the season beating Emerging Nomads 27-12 in the only Shimmin Wilson Shield game scheduled this week.

Bryan Kennaugh snaffled two first half tries for Vagas as they surged into a 22-5 half-time lead.

The other Vagas scores came from Andre Pretorious and John Ferguson, plus two points from the boot of Jack Moore.

Nomads kept themselves in the hunt with a well worked score from Furo Davies.

In the second half, Vagas edged clear with a try from Jay Kruger before Nomads hit back.

Their late try came from Alistair Landels, converted by Al Corrin, but it was little more than a consolation.
