Simply gr-eight for Island at LCC

The Isle of Man team won eight medals at the Lancashire Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

A team of around 40 athletes, officials and spectators travelled to Witton Park in Blackburn for the annual gathering and produced an impressive display.

Gold medals went to Sarah Astin in the under 20 women’s class, while veteran Murray Lambden also struck gold in the over 55 men’s event.

There were silver medals for debutant Niall Caley in the under 11 boys and Ollie Lockley in the under 20 men’s.

Gail Griffiths also picked up silver in the over 45 women’s race and teamed up with Astin and Rebecca Wallace (eighth overall) to win gold for the women’s team.

There was more team success with the veteran men’s claiming second and the senior men taking third and a bronze medal.
