Southern Nomads in Manx Cup semi-finals

Holders knocked out of Manx Plate

Southern Nomads beat Western Vikings 59-5 at QEII to earn a home semi-final against Ramsey in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Cup.

Early tries from John Walster, Leon Landels and Harry Brereton gave Nomads a 19-0 lead within just eight minutes.

Vikings then rallied and an Ollie Creasey try reduced the Nomads advantage until Landels added a second on the approach to half-time.

The teams turned around with Nomads 26-5 in front and bit by bit they pulled away from their hosts.

Mark Young added one more, then Rob Craine, then Fraser Veale to push the lead out to 47-5.

Two late scores from Adam Young and Harry Catlow iced the cake and left the scoreboard with a look which didn’t really do justice to an encouraging Vikings performance.

Emerging Nomads pulled off a shock in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Plate by defeating holders Ramsey B 31-19 at King William’s College.

Former Ramsey man Orry Watterson helped himself to a hat-trick of tries for Nomads to secure their second win of the season.

There were other tries from Jacob Callow and Gerard Landels with Rob Martin kicking the conversions.

For Ramsey, Max Singer, Chris Clague and James Wren all scored tries with Clague adding two conversions.

Nomads will now face Western Vikings in the semi-final.

In the other preliminary round tie, Vagabonds B were unable to field a team so Douglas B will also advance to the last four where they will play Castletown.
