Special Olympics IoM head to Gibraltar for national games

Games running from 21-23 September

Special Olympics IoM will be putting its skills to the test at a prestigious event this week.

The Manx team has made its way overseas as it prepares to take part in the Special Olympics Gibraltar National Games 2022.

Taking place from today (21 September) until Friday (23 September), the occasion is returning for the first time since 2019 after an enforced break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The games officially get underway at 6pm tonight with the opening ceremony, law enforcement torch run and athletics competitions at the new facilities at Lathbury.

On Thursday morning from 9am (22 September) the football competition takes place, with Gibraltar and the Isle of Man joined by the football team of Algeciras.

Thursday evening will see the Bocce event held at the Bayside Complex Tennis Court, commencing from 5pm.

From 9am on Friday morning (23 September) the bowls tournament will be played out at the Kings Bastion Leisure Centre before the final event of the swimming from 6pm at the GSLA pool.

The pool complex will then host the closing ceremony after the final event has concluded.
