Spirited performances in weekend cricket

An impressive innings from Jaco Jansen lit up the Standard Bank Tinker Cup on Saturday (15 June) when the Cronkbourne all-rounder blasted an unbeaten 113 which included 9 fours and no fewer than 8 sixes.

Opponents Crosby had posted a challenging 199 for 5 from their 40 overs. Danny Kniveton hit an impressive 95 with Jacob Hicklin scoring 40.

A break for rain reduced the Tromode target down to 185 off 37 overs. Jansen and fellow opener Max Stokoe attacked the bowling from the start, 30 runs were on the board after the first three overs and the assault did not stop.

The batsmen took just under 17 overs to win the game, scoring at nearly 11 an over. Stokoe ended on 60 not out with 5 fours and 4 sixes.

Also in the Tinker Cup, a spirited Union Mills lost by four wickets at Mullen-e-Cloie. They were dismissed for 101, but then had Peel & St John’s struggling on 71 for 5. Neil Jacobs took his side to the brink of victory before he became the fourth victim of an inspired spell from Eddie Clague. The Millers' bowler took 4 for 13 as the Saints got home by four wickets.

There was a close game in the north when Ramsey faced a Valkyres total of 206 for 6. Ryan Windell had scored 49 and Dominic Howard was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 42.

Once again rain led to a reduced target, but Ramsey managed to reach the required 196, losing eight wickets on the way and were indebted to a patient 68 from Rob Webber.
