Taggart starts year in style

Lloyd Taggart started 2012 as he left off in 2011 with a convincing victory in the Supercards St John’s Fell Race.

He completed the 3.5 mile course at Slieau Whallian on New Year’s Day in just over 22 minutes in very muddy conditions.

The ever-improving Oliver Lockley claimed the runners-up spot two minutes behind Taggart and two seconds ahead of third placed man, experienced fell runner Simon Skillicorn.

There was a record turnout of 148 competitors in fancy dress.

The first woman home was Kate Burge who was 13th overall in a time of 29 minutes and six seconds.

The second woman was Rebecca Wallace with Judith Quane in third.

In the junior race, Jason Moore took the win ahead of his brother Shaun with Illiam Quane securing third spot.

The other class winners were Ellan Quane, Connor Davies, Vinnie Lynch, Rose Hooton, Dave Corrin and Moira Hall.

A total of £735 was raised for two charities, Rebecca House and the Hyperbaric Chamber.
