Crew says 'entire bike is a total loss' after TT qualifying crash
A sidecar team whose machine suffered significant damage at this year's TT is expecting some large costs if it hopes to get back to racing.
Peter Founds & Jevan Walmsley were involved in an incident at Rhencullen during qualifying at this year's TT on Sunday, 1 June.
Whilst both competitors were discharged from hospital a day later (2 June), the team has taken to social media to say now they've had the chance to fully assess the bike, the damage is 'far worse than we could have imagined.'
Included in that, they say, the chassis 'will need to be completely replaced' and the fire 'destroyed all the electrics, including the ECU and clocks', adding 'in short, the entire bike is a total loss.'
Currently, Team Founds states its 'rough idea' of prices could see a chassis cost between £5,000 and £12,000; Electronics around £8,000; £5,000 for wheels, hubs and brakes; £3,000 on suspension and a further £3,000 on 'ancillaries and other parts.'
Despite the challenge, the crew adds: "Devastated is an understatement but in the middle of all this, we’ve been overwhelmed with support from the racing community and beyond. That’s what keeps us going.
"We are determined to rebuild, and once the team is fully fit again, we’ll be back doing what we love."
Following their crash, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Team Founds financially with donations as of now (11 June) currently at more than £11,700 with a target to generate £13,000 in total.
