Squads taking positives from campaigns this month

The Isle of Man men's and women's tennis squads faced tough competition during this year's respective Summer County Cup competitions.

During two separate busy schedules from 21-25 July, the men's side travelled to Manchester to take part in Men's Group 7 of the tournament with the women's side contesting Women's Group 7 in Frinton-on-sea.

The only Isle of Man victory on the board across both came from the female squad as their 5-4 success over Shropshire saw them finish third out of the four sides in their group.

Meanwhile, the men's team finished with a tough run of five consecutive losses to finish bottom of their section.

Along with their sole victory during that week, the women's side also ran South of Scotland close, only narrowly on the wrong side of a 5-4 defeat to their Scottish opponents.

Elsewhere, the women's team were handed 6-3 losses to both Cumbria and Oxfordshire as well as a 7-2 loss to Wiltshire.

For the Isle of Man men's squad they lost out to Bedfordshire, Gloucestershire, Channel Islands and Cumbria by 7-2 scorelines before a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Cornwall.

Tennis Isle of Man says whilst for the men's team the overall results weren't what they'd hoped for, there were some good individual and doubles performances throughout from Orry Farnworth, Adam Pyatt-Coppell, Sean Drewry, Nick Reeder, Jayden Go, Nerijus Gricevicius, Chris Mash and Andrew Maxwell.

For the ladies, the experience is being described by Tennis Isle of Man as 'a week of grit, growth and great tennis.'
