Town and Cronkbourne win in Lancashire Cup

Castletown and Cronkbourne won their games in the first round of the Lancashire Cup on Sunday.

Heavy rain reduced Cronkbourne’s game at Penwortham to a 20 over match.

The home side rattled up 110 for 8 with Gareth Dawson taking four for 14 and Matt Ansell three for 26.

The Manx team got the runs for the loss of five wickets with just three balls to spare.

Gareth Dawson hit 37 and Dan Hawke 19.

Barnoldswick had made 87 for three against Castletown when a tropical storm hit the ground.

All three wickets were taken by Travis Friend in a hat-trick.

Hours later when play resumed, the Lancashire side’s innings was closed and the Town were set to make 49 for victory from ten overs – but they could not lose more than two wickets.

Friend and Gareth Morris opened and got the runs without losing a wicket.

They now face the winners of the St Annes versus Uppermill tie.

Cronkbourne go the winners of Greenmount v Vernon Carus.
