Evans and Hodson claim first TT podiums during two-lap showdown

Michael Dunlop has racked up win number 31 at the Isle of Man TT Races by taking victory in this evening's Supertwin TT Race 1.

In an imperious display, the Ballymoney man finished nearly 27 seconds clear of runner-up and local rider Michael Evans who claimed his first ever TT podium finish.

Also getting a first taste of a podium at the meeting was Rob Hodson who fought off the advances of the likes of Paul Jordan, Davey Todd and Dominic Herbertson to claim third.

An imperious force in the class in recent years, Dunlop was setting a stern benchmark from the very start which was backed up by the fact he'd already established a 9.3 seconds lead over second-placed Michael Evans at Ramsey on lap one.

Heading onto the mountain section of that first lap Evans was looking to keep pace just 2.7 seconds clear of Davey Todd in third and Rob Hodson just one second back in fourth.

As the front of the pack reach began their mission onto the second and final run around the Snaefell Mountain Course, Ballymoney man Dunlop was continuing to assert his dominance.

As he stretched his lead over Evans to 10.7 seconds onto lap two, the battle for third remained up for grabs with the likes of Todd, Paul Jordan, Dominic Herbertson and Rob Hodson all still in contention.

At Glen Helen, Hodson moved into the top three by just under a second and come Ballaugh Hodson had moved more than three seconds clear in his attempts to hang onto a podium place.

With clear road heading over the mountain on the final lap, Dunlop's lead over Evans in second was extended whilst Evans himself was still holding a cushion to Hodson further back.

But with all the questions going on way behind him, there was nothing uncertain for Dunlop as he went on to claim a 31st TT win and his second of the meeting come the chequered flag.

Meanwhile two memorable moments not too long after him as local man Evans and Hodson took their first ever journeys onto the TT podium.
