Vagabonds crash; Douglas bounce back

Vagabonds took a fairly hefty beating against league leaders Wirral, going down 33-0 in their South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One match.

Vagas were comprehensively outplayed by a very strong Wirral side who have laid down their promotion credentials for the season.

In South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two, Douglas got back to the right side of the scoreline with a tight 15-8 home win against Southport.

Peter Fisher’s early try put Douglas in front but a John Sawbridge penalty kept Southport in the hunt with the half-time score 5-3.

Geoff Miles scored Douglas’ second try just after the interval and Bryn Snellgrove added a penalty and a drop goal to give Douglas an unassailable 15-3 lead, despite a late consolation try for the visitors from wing John Mawdsley.

In South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Four, Ramsey lost their top of the table tie against Parkonians by the narrowest of margins, losing 14-13 on the Wirral.

Parkonians led 11-5 at half-time with a try by Ramsey skipper Tynan Pritchard keeping the dream alive for his team.

A Fintan Cummins penalty narrowed the gap in the second half before a late try from Andy Wilson gave youngster Cummins a chance to steal the game with a last minute conversion which drifted agonisingly wide.
