Vagas Ladies win Ballafletcher try-fest

Vagas beat Bury 70-0 in a high scoring performance at Ballafletcher and moved into second place in the Womens NC2 North (South) standings.

Jules Harrison and Becky Dunne scored early tries for Vagas but the game really came alive on the half hour. Bliss Murtagh scored two in quick succession and Sophie Henry also crossed which saw the score jumping from 10-0 to 27-0 in three hectic minutes. Leona McGovern then joined the party to leave Vagas 34-0 ahead at the break with Sammie Macdonald kicking two first half conversions.

Replacement Chloe Dillon scored early in the second half to extend the lead. Sophie Henry then crossed for her second of the match. Jules Harrison then scored back to back tries for her hat trick and as the final whistle approached Maylyn Campbell grabbed one and Bliss Murtagh completed her hat trick. Among all that Sammie Macdonald added three more conversions.

Bury claim honours at Ballafletcher

Bury’s lofty position in the Counties 3 ADM standings meant they would be a tough prospect for Vagabonds even at Ballafletcher. Despite that, Vagas led 10-8 at half time before finally succumbing 39-10.

Will Smith kicked Bury in front with an early penalty but Vagas hit back quickly with the first of Tom Gascoyne’s two. Sam Norris then snatched a try for Bury before Gascoyne bagged his second to leave Vagas two in front at the break, however an injury to playmaker Dan Bonwick meant he could play no further part in the game.

The forced reshuffle destabilised Vagas and Bury capitalised. Two tries from skipper Dan Palmeiri got them in front. A Sam Lyth score secured the bonus point and as the game finished Joe Kelly and Sam Norris both added to the scoreboard with Smith converting three.
