Vikings A begin title defence against Bacchas A

Sam Spooner reflects on recent contrast between the two sides

Vikings A begin the defence of their PwC Women's Premier League crown when they take on Bacchas A tomorrow.

The Cronkbourne side suffered defeat in their opening game as they went down 2-1 to Castletown A last week.

Despite Bacchas A dominating in the mixed and men's formats over recent seasons, that has not been the case in the women's top flight.

They finished 11 points off the pace last season in fourth place, with another fourth place finish in the 2016/17 campaign - with Vikings A winning the title on both occasions.

Vikings have been head and shoulders above every other side in the women's hockey for more than a decade and have quality in abundance throughout the team.

In that time, they have also gone for more than 100 matches unbeaten.
