Vikings stun champions; Town relegated

Vikings A turned on the style to stun Bacchas A on Saturday.

They inflicted a first defeat of the season on the newly-crowned men’s Division One champions and in an emphatic manner.

Goals from Paul Kelly, Andrew Harding, Conor Byrne, Phil Quayle and Steve Crowe sealed a 5-2 win to increase their chances of securing the runners-up spot.

Richard Le Page notched both for Bacchas on a rare off-day.

A double from Chris Thomas and a Chris Caldwell strike fired Valkyrs A to a 3-1 success against Ramsey, whose goal was scored by Dan Stevenson.

It was a sad day for Castletown A as they were relegated.

They came back from 2-0 down to earn a point against Vikings B, whose goals were scored by Ian Duggan and Juan Corlett.

However, it wasn’t enough preserve their Division One status.

There were also four shared goals in the match between Bacchas B and Saracens.

Andy Whiting and Dave Partington were on target for Bacchas with the prolific Steve Cottier getting both for Saracens.

In women’s Division One, Vikings A moved closer to the women’s Division One crown with a 5-0 win against hard-working Valkyrs B.

Doubles from the mother and daughter partnership of Jan and Kim Carney and one from Karen Faragher secured the points.

Reigning champions Bacchas A remain in the hunt after an important 1-0 victory against Valkyrs A – Claire Louise Lace the scorer.

Jo Quine and Hannah Stout were the scorers as Ramsey A won 2-0 against Phoenix, while Castletown A hit 11 without reply against Harlequins.

There were hat-tricks for Lois Watterson and Katie Tinkler.

Lauren Stewart scored twice and Kerry Kelly, Claire Power and Barbara Kniveton all chipped in with one apiece.
