Waterloo burst Douglas bubble

Vagabonds snatch draw

Douglas’ five match winning streak came to a shuddering halt at Port-e-Chee where they lost 35-30 to Firwood Waterloo.

The hosts were pretty much chasing the game from the off in North One West.

Jacob Allan and Scott Davidson’s tries, converted by Tom Booth who also added a penalty, more than cancelled out Nick Brooker’s try for Douglas and Bryn Snellgrove’s penalty and conversion.

James Maddrell added a second try for Douglas but Jim Wheeler went in at the other end and Booth added another penalty which saw the visitors lead 24-17 at the break.

Brooker ran in his second after the restart and Max Morley-Green secured Douglas a try bonus point as they closed in on Waterloo.

However, Wilbur Harris’s try sealed it for the visitors and a late Booth penalty wasn’t enough to prevent Douglas picking up a second bonus point.

Vagabonds recorded their first point of the season when they drew 15-15 with Port Sunlight in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.

Vagas initially took the lead through a Tom Gascoyne try before Sunlight levelled through Alex Bedson.

A John Glover penalty got Sunlight’s noses in front and Steve Bailey’s try just before half time, converted by Glover, saw the teams turn around with Vagas trailing 15-5.

Cam Findlay kicked a penalty early in the second half to reduce the deficit and, as the game neared its end, Owen Carvin’s try brought Vagas even closer and Findlay’s touchline conversion tied the game.
