Scotsman claims 36th spot in renowned 'Tommy Club'

There was a huge smile on the face of Scottish Manx Grand Prix rider Johnny Stewart as he entered the Winners Enclosure on Saturday (22 August) having secured his second racing victory of the day.

After finishing first in the midday Sportbike event with a 22.456s win, the man from Galashiels got back out in the afternoon to dominate the four-lap Supersport race.

Joining him on the podium in the Sportbike race; Eddy Wormald in second and newcomer Kevin Lavery in third.

In the Supersport race he was flanked by Graham McAleese in second place and Eddy Wormald in third.

But what's more for Johnny Stewart is that, on his second lap of the Supersport event, he carried an average of 121.689mph to become the 36th (and final) member of the 'Tommy Club'.

The Tommy Club was set up in memory of Manx rider Tommy Clucas who became the first person in MGP history to lap at over 120mph, an achievement he secured in the 2004 Junior Manx Grand Prix. Later in that same race he was fatally injured in a crash at Ballaugh Bridge.

An exclusive 36 spots were up for grabs in the Tommy Club for riders able to complete a 120mph lap, each spot representing a year of Tommy's life.

Claiming the 36th and final spot, Johnny told Radio TT he wanted it "so much":
