Four Americans killed in Kenya helicopter crash

Four Americans have been killed in a helicopter crash in Kenya.

A US State Department spokesperson confirmed the deaths and said it happened in Samburu County, in the north of the country.

It did not name the victims but said the US embassy was in touch with authorities and providing consular assistance.

The Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority said the Eurocopter EC130 B4 crashed near Ololokwe Mountain during a flight from Loisaba to Ewaso Nyiro at about 9am on Wednesday.

The aviation authority spokesperson didn't say how many people were on the aircraft or whether they were tourists. However, Kenyan newspaper The Star said police had earlier reported seven on board.

Luxury tour agency &Beyond said its guests were on the helicopter but also did not give a number.

In February, a Kenyan politician was among six people who died in another helicopter crash in the west of the country.
