'Register all your companies now!

Businesses trading in the Isle of Man which have not previously registered their companies are being encouraged to do so, in a new campaign from the Department of Economic Development.

Manx legislation requires any individual, firm or company that conducts business or trading activity under a name other than its own to be registered.

The General Registry has drawn up a list of around 400 businesses that don't appear to be on the official list, and says it will soon be circulating letters to them, including registration forms.

The department says registering a business also has benefits, in that the name receives increased protection. It also provides official notification to others that the name is already taken.

The registry won't register any other name which it considers confusingly similar to one which is already on the list, and the companies registrar can take legal action against any business using another's name.

The Companies Registry is located at St George's Court, Douglas.
